General Education Requirements for Capella Bachelor’s Students

Already have your general education requirements met? Don't forget Sophia courses can also fulfill your elective requirements.

24+21=45

Then you're free to choose 21 additional quarter credits from any of the categories.

Sophia = Extra Credits for Capella Students

Here's an Example
You need 6 Humanities credits. You take Sophia's Introduction to Art History and Approaches to Studying Religions for a total of 9 credits. 6 credits meet the Humanities credit requirement while the remaining 3 count toward the 21 additional general education credits you need for your degree*. Our students love the freedom, flexibility and support we offer. See what they're saying about Sophia's courses.

A very interesting course.
by Lawrence P. on May 21, 2017
Way too much information to really be able to learn in the amount of time allotted. It was more of a memorize and regurgitate.
Sophia replied on May 22, 2017

Lawrence - congratulations on your recent course completion! This course does cover a broad range of history and periods. We allow an "open book" approach to the assessments in the course to reduce the amount of memorization so students can focus on learning the material and using course resources to help on the formative and summative assessments. Sophia's Learning Coaches are also here to help support our students on concepts in the course. We hope to see you again in a future course with us. Thank you!

Loved it! Very fun. It was a new and cool way to learn.
by Amy S. on May 21, 2017
This course was extremely hard for me. While the information was useful, I do not think that it should go into such great detail for conflict resolution. If I was going to school to be a mediator or for something in that area it would be great. Too detailed for a general elective course.
Sophia replied on May 22, 2017

Hi Amy -- Congratulations on your recent course completion! Conflict Resolution is a deeper topic than many people may think. This course covers the role of conflict resolution strategies in personal, family, intercultural and organization settings. Those various scenarios provide the student with a firm foundation in the subject matter. As always, our team is here to help you when and if you have questions in the course. Congratulations from all of us here at Sophia on your achievement!

The Learning Coach was incredibly helpful throughout the course
by Cassandra J. on May 20, 2017
This was my first Sophia course and it was a breeze. I finished my course a month ahead of time. All while working full-time and being a full-time student at another school. I will defiantly be taking more courses through Sophia.
by Greg K. on May 20, 2017
Sooooooooooo many videos, I thought they'd go on forever. I thought most of the course material was common sense. That being said, I still learned plenty of new things. As others have said, take advantage of the learning coaches whenever you are unsure of how to answer a question -- they are VERY helpful, and quick to respond.
by Barbette P. on May 20, 2017
Course was very informative, I learned a lot of new things.
