General Education Requirements for Capella Bachelor’s Students

Already have your general education requirements met? Don't forget Sophia courses can also fulfill your elective requirements.

24+21=45
You need 45 quarter credits to meet your general education requirements. This must include a minimum of 6 quarter credits from each of the following four categories: Communication, Humanities, Natural Science and Mathematics, and Social Science. Then you're free to choose 21 additional quarter credits from any of the categories.

Sophia = Extra Credits for Capella Students
If you take two 4.5 credit Sophia courses from the same category, you’ll not only meet that general education category credit requirement, you’ll also have 3 extra credits to apply to the 21 general education credits required for your degree.

Here's an Example
You need 6 Humanities credits. You take Sophia's Introduction to Art History and Approaches to Studying Religions for a total of 9 credits. 6 credits meet the Humanities credit requirement while the remaining 3 count toward the 21 additional general education credits you need for your degree*. Score!

*Consult with your Academic Advisor about your specific degree plan requirements.

Reviews

Our students love the freedom, flexibility and support we offer. See what they're saying about Sophia's courses.

by Nathan D. on February 24, 2017
I didn't like that an entire question is wrong even if you get 2/3 or 3/4 of the answers correct. I would like it more if there was some partial credit given for questions with multiple answers. Overall, great course!
by Justin S. on February 23, 2017
Struggled alot towards the end of the course. Along with teaching concepts, you need a way to actually walk the student through the problems their doing.
Sophia replied on February 23, 2017

Justin - congratulations on your successful course completion! We agree that often students need more than just the teaching of concepts. That's why we supplement the instruction with our team of Learning Coaches. Students in Introduction to Statistics also have access to 24x7 "on demand" tutoring via the "Access a Tutor" button in the course. Both of these resources are designed to help ensure students understand the concepts and how to approach the questions/problems.

enjoyable
by Madeline M. on February 22, 2017
It was easy, especially after taking project management and it gave me the extra credit and a half I need to graduate early.
by Kaitlyn B. on February 20, 2017
Great course on leadership development. Seems like common sense but there's some important information available to learn.
by Cherie P. on February 17, 2017
Wasnt too bad, however scratch paper and a pencil should be allowed for the exam.
by Curtis G. on February 17, 2017
It was a interest course and the Tutors are good Especially Mr. Erick Taggart however it alot. ugh .
by Tonya J. on February 16, 2017
Very complicated, the material doesn't match the questions.
Sophia replied on February 16, 2017

Hi Tonya - thanks for your comment on the course. In our courses, the questions are part of a weaved storyline that goes through the Challenge. The tutorials teach the concepts in a more traditional sense. The assessments are based on more "real life" scenarios and challenge the student to apply the concepts. Our team of Learning Coaches is here to help when questions may not be clear, or students need assistance finding the right content. We hope to get a chance to work with you in a future Sophia course. Thank you!
