Very interesting and informative. A lot of the information was quite well known, but the courses added some depth to familiar topics. Was able to finish quite comfortably within a week.

Introduction to Sociology was a fantastic course that was very relevant to society today. It was challenging, but really helped me gain a more sociological insight into the world around me. Highly recommend taking Intro to Psych before, will help with the concepts.

This course covers a lot of material and expects a lot of inference (i.e. based on what you read, which is the most correct). The instructors are not "bad" but they are certainly not at the level of any of the other courses I have taken here (this was my seventh). Difficult for me to listen to, not well rehearsed. So I read most lessons myself.

A very enjoyable course, it makes sociology approachable, and used many very good historical and current event examples to illustrate some concepts. This is a subject that we all should know better, and should perhaps even be mandatory in high school curricula.

The course was great. Easy to understand and navigate. The ID verification was awful. It took me 90 minutes to just get in to take the exam.

This was my first Sophia Course. I thought this course was challenging yet informative. There is a lot of information so take notes. Some questions in the Milestones are up for debate in my opinion. Zach was my favorite instructor. There is an ID Verification Milestone but it was easier than I had anticipated.

FAQ

  • Q: Does Sophia accept third-party payment for tuition, such as financial aid or military benefits?
A: Sophia courses are not eligible for most third party payment methods, and must be paid for by credit or debit card. Tuition is due at the time of course registration. Sophia offers both full and partial payment plans as part of the registration process.
  • Q: When do the courses start and how long do I have to complete a course?
A: You choose your own start date and have 60 days to complete each course. However, because the courses are self-paced, you can complete them in fewer than 60 days.
  • Q: Where do I get the textbooks for my course?
A: You do not need any textbooks for Sophia courses. All material is taught by video and text-based tutorials that are in the course room, and are included in the cost.
  • Q: How am I graded in the course?
A: Your overall score is derived from how you do on two types of assessments: Challenges, which are formative assessments, and Milestones, which are summative assessments. Sophia’s English Composition I, Foundations of English Composition, and Public Speaking courses also include written assignments, called Touchstones, that also contribute to your overall score.
  • Q: How do I know which courses I should take?
A: Consult with your academic adviser at your university to determine specifically which Sophia courses could fit into your program. You can download the course syllabus directly from our site to share with your school advisor.
